THE FUTURE OF LOW VOLUME INJECTION MOLDING

Whether it is for a prototype run or low volume production we can support your needs for quick-turnaround molded parts. Nobody is better than Seaway in combining speed and flexibility.

A challenging and increasing trend within the low volume production injection molding market are “drop in” production purchase orders.  We define drop-in orders as new PO’s or releases that are issued by our customers that require production approved parts be shipped within a 3 week window from the date of the PO/release (with the majority of the drop-in PO’s we receive requesting ship dates of ASAP).

Less than 5 years ago we averaged approximately 35% drop-in production PO’s.  We currently are exceeding 60% drop-in production orders.  This trend is driven by the fact that many of our customers regardless of the market they are in, have limited demand visibility while maintaining a just-in-time inventory strategy.

For over 30 years Seaway Plastics has focused on prototype & low volume production injection molding.  We have structured our injection molding operations around the simple fact we must be fast and flexible, have ample injection molding capacity, and do our best to anticipate the needs of our customers.

Part of our responsibility as a valued supplier is to educate our customers on what they can do to minimize the challenges of meeting drop-in PO/release ship dates.  We encourage our customers to engage us in yearly blanket order agreements and various forms of order replenishment programs, even if forecasted demand is under 200 parts per year!
